PRAGUE IFF – FEBIOFEST SHOWCASES FILMS THAT HAVE SUCCEEDED AT THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS FILM EVENTS IN THE WORLD

The gripping investigative documentary Assassins uncovers the story of two women who unwittingly became entangled in a secret service plan to remove Kim Jong-nam, an inconvenient critic of the North Korean regime. The touching family drama Farewell Amor sensitively portrays the immigrant experience, and the star-studded, captivating spectacle Shirley is inspired by the personality of the author of The Haunting of Hill House. And all these films premiered at Sundance – the best-known independent film festival in the USA.

Shirley, with Elizabeth Moss in the lead role, brought home the Special Jury Award for Auteur Filmmaking; Farewell Amor later won the Independent Spirit Award. Exile, a film about an increasingly paranoid Kosovan engineer in Germany, and Charter, the story of a Swedish mother trying to make contact with her children (which has been selected for our Main Competition) both started out in Park City, Utah, as well. Dinner in America, a humorous and sensitive portrait of two uprooted souls, which was also shown at Sundance, will feature in the Febiofest Comedy Competition. And finally, we have chosen Bembé, also from the Robert Redford-founded festival’s programme, for our Virtual Reality Cinema section. This VR film will bring you to the heart of a traditional Cuban ritual.
