Born 11th of March 1980 in Trondheim, Norway. Lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. Graduated from Bergen Academy of the Arts in 2006 and The National Film School of Denmark in 2011. Sturla got his international breakthrough with the single-take thriller Victoria from 2015, which he received the Silver Bear for artistic contribution at the 65th Berlinale. The same year he received the Silver Frog at Camerimage for Rams, which shows his range of adapting to story and character. His intuitive and intimate style has attracted directors as Benh Zeitlin (Wendy), Josephine Decker (Shirley) and Michael Noer (Before the Frost). Another Round directed by Thomas Vinterberg, was nominated for a Golden Globe, and won the Academy Award for Best International Feature in 2021. The Innocents directed by Eskil Vogt, premiered at the Cannes film festival 2021. 

The prominent Norwegian cinematographer will present his film Shirley, starring Elisabeth Moss, acclaimed film Heartstone, Academy Award picture Another Round, very well-known to Czech audience, and a new release Last and First Men. Sturla Brandth Grøvlen will talk about his work in the Masterclass on September 21 at Edison FilmHub.
