The story of Ling who teaches Mandarin at a school in Singapore, but is frustrated by the fact that her classes are not considered as important as other subjects. Moreover, her marriage is falling apart because they have trouble conceiving. Only a friendship with one of the students helps Ling to discover herself again. A romantic drama about the forbidden relationship between a student and a teacher, set in Singapore clouded by the monsoon rains.

His short films won numerous awards at such prestigious festivals as Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, and others. He became more widely known with his feature debut Ilo Ilo which premiered at Cannes IFF and won a Caméra d'Or.
