Clara leaves her home and her alcoholic husband behind and arrives with her two sons in snowy New York. They don't have much more than the car and then it is suddenly towed. The cold metropolis takes pity on the trio and offers a helping hand – they get as far as the Winter Palace restaurant, which draws in travelers in need. This film about hardships in a metropolitan jungle, friendships and open hearts had its world premiere at Berlinale.

Lone Scherfig

The Danish screenwriter and director started with commercials. Her film On Our Own (1998) won the Grand Prix at Montréal IFF, and Italian for Beginners (2000) a Silver Bear at Berlinale. Her first English-speaking film Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself (2002) was presented at many international festivals including Berlinale, and An Education (2009) received three Oscar nominations.
