This visually captivating documentary follows five men whose families have for generations made a living by cutting down bamboo in Northwest Bangladesh. They accompany the cargo on a dangerous 300-km journey down the Kushiyara river, transporting twenty-five thousand trees on a giant raft to sell them to wholesalers in the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka. The journey takes more than a month and is full of risks and dangers, including rapids, thieves and pirates.

Shaheen Dill-Riaz

The Bangladeshi director, screenwriter and cinematographer spent his youth in a military boarding school. At the age of 18, he defied his parents' wish, abandoned the army career and started shooting short films. In 1982, he left for Berlin to study art history and then film. He currently focuses on making documentaries and teaching.
