The famous director Nick Broomfield's latest documentary starts on the Greek island of Hydra in 1960, in a community of international artists. It is a temporary home of the yet-unknown Leonard Cohen, and of Marianne Ihlen, who will soon become his muse. Never released before, the archive footage paints an idyllic portrait of the bohemian 1960s, and maps the beginning of a friendship that lasted over half a century, until the death of both protagonists in 2016.

Nick Broomfield

The iconic British filmmaker gained fame with numerous documentaries that won countless awards at festivals all over the world. His specific self-reflective style and choice of topics have influenced many documentary directors. Later, he started to use non-actors who often play themselves based on a script, and he coined a term for this technique: the direct cinema.
