MFF Praha – Febiofest

For the third time the Queer Now section is delivering Czech premieres of new queer films that range greatly in both geographical and genre terms.

Italian director Filippo Meneghetti’s feature debut Two of Us, which made a splash among industry insiders and viewers at the Toronto IFF, explores a relationship between two women that has been secret for decades. The iconic Barbara Sukowa and Martine Chevallier will persuade you that love is the best reason to live.

The intimate drama Lingua Franca by Filipino filmmaker Isabel Sandoval brings together the issues of trans identity and emigration. The story of the search for both love and a place in the community is set in Brooklyn. Sandoval is the first trans woman of Asian origin to produce, direct and star in her own film. Lingua Franca was a success at the Tribeca and Venice film festivals.

The romance The Blonde One by festival stalwart Marco Berger looks at the theme of love and intimacy in the macho world. Argentinian stars Alfonso Barón and Gaston Re deliver standout performances.

In Cocoon, one of two pictures in this section fresh from Berlinale, the adolescent Nora experiences first love with the raucous Romy during one hot summer in Berlin. Talented young German director Leonie Krippendorff also brought her debut Looping to Febiofest.
