Among the films screened in the Panorama section at the Prague IFF – Febiofest has been the new Son-Mother, which was made in Czech co-production.

“Our company has been in existence for seven years. We found similarities between Iranians and Czechs and we also needed a technical background and more freedom,” says Iranian producer Kaveh Farnam, explaining this international cooperation. The Czech-based firm Europe Media Nest has helped in the creation of five films, including this year’s Berlinale winner There is No Evil.

The drama Son-Mother, which is competition for the Amnesty International Award at Febiofest, has not yet been screened in Iran, because of both Covid-19 and the fact it has yet to receive a distribution permit. “In Iran you have to have an approved script, to get a license to shoot and also a permit for festival screening,” says Farnam.

Alongside him Czech producer Gabriela Daniels also spoke to the audience “Post-production on the film was carried out in the Czech Republic and the director Mahnaz Mohammadi spent two months here. She really wanted to be here to introduce it to you, but she couldn’t because of the situation. I want to also thank you for coming on behalf of her,” she told viewers.
