He comes from an actor family and studied acting at Prague’s DAMU. After his film debut in 1983, he has become one of the most frequently cast Czech actors since. He has won two Czech Lion Awards, out of his 15 nominations, for Guard No. 47 (2008) and A Prominent Patient (2016). He ranks among the most internationally successful Czech actors, appearing in films by e.g. Guy Ritchie or Paul Greengrass. He is presenting the new film Nightline at the festival, for which he won an award at the New York festival.
