Spineless entrepreneur and slaughterhouse owner Ryszard Wilk will use anything to gain business opportunities – even his own daughter. On her wedding day, his aging father receives an award for his behaviour during a war pogrom. The medals remind him of dramatic past events that, with only minor variations, begin repeating themselves suspiciously in the present as well. During the wedding evening, the differences between memories and reality begin to deteriorate, and even for the materialistic Ryszard, it starts to be important to know who he really is.

Wojciech Smarzowski

This Polish director is known primarily for his open and sharp criticism of contemporary Polish society. Among his strongest films are Hatred (2016) and his uncompromising portrait of the Polish church Clergy (2018). The Wedding Day is yet another of his socially provocative titles – and one that became an audience hit immediately after its premiere. This picture came back from the Tallinn festival wreathed with honours for best direction and screenwriting.
