Johannes has just reached the verge of puberty, but he has already experienced several moves, his uncle's departure for Afghanistan, and a strange incident with a radioactive liquid that caused him to lose half of his hair. When the Soviet Union starts collapsing, he and his crazy hippie mother embark on an adventure in search of Western freedom. The affectionate and satirical glimpse into growing up in unconventional circumstances explores the universal longing for freedom.

Lauri Randla

The Estonian-born proud member of the Ingrian minority grew up in a Soviet city that produced nuclear weapons and therefore did not officially exist. This greatly influenced his later work in which he repeatedly returns to the era of the collapsing USSR. His second feature film Goodbye Soviet Union! successfully premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights festival. He has also won numerous awards for his short films.
