Four siblings live with their mother in a small Tokyo flat. To save on the rent, the mother has declared only the oldest son, Akira, and the rest of the kids are in the flat unofficially. One day, they find a little money on the table, with a note for 12-year-old Akira to look after his siblings. The abandoned kids try to handle their tough fate and create their own microcosms, isolating themselves in the flat. But when the world comes knocking, the fragile balance shatters. Will courage and determination be enough for survival?
