A young man from Syria named Aryan, his father, and a group of others try to flee the country across Serbia to Hungary. When attempting to illegally cross the border, Aryan is shot and the others arrested. It seems they will remain imprisoned in an impenetrable tangle of disinterest and corruption, but Aryan finds out his injury has surprising consequences. Kornél Mundruczó has set his futuristic parable in European settings in the near future.
