This feature film brings the story of one of the most distinctive personalities of our history, Václav Havel. The film focuses on his tumultuous personal life, dominated by his fight for truth and doing the right thing, his persecution, imprisonment, and his love affairs, own doubts, and humour. We follow him between the years 1968 and 1989 and the film observes the long journey and the protagonist’s transformation from a carefree and successful playwright of the 1960s to a human rights activist of the 1970s, and to a leading personality of the Velvet Revolution and an icon worldwide

Slávek Horák

He was born in Gottwaldov, where he studied at the local film school. Early in his career, he established himself primarily as a successful commercials director. His feature debut Home Care (2015) resonated not only in the Czech Republic, but also abroad when it scored at Palm Springs festival in the USA. Variety magazine featured Horak in their “10 Directors to Watch” list.
