TIPS FROM THE PRAGUE IFF – FEBIOFEST 2022 PROGRAMME – FILMS FROM FESTIVALS AROUND THE WORLD:

Murina

This intimate drama tells the story of Julija, an adolescent growing up by the sea in Croatia who is trying to break free from her domineering father. The film, directed by Dubrovnik native Antoneta A. Kusijanovic, received the Camera d’Or award at Cannes for best first feature film in 2021. Martin Scorsese took on the role of executive producer. Gracija Filipović, who played the lead role, was selected as one this year’s Shooting Stars at Berlinale. Murina is included in Febiofest’s Main Competition section.

Sundown

Alice and Neil have to cut their tropical holiday short and return to the UK in order to deal with a tragic situation that threatens their large family fortune. Suddenly, however, Neil decides to stay in Acapulco. Things begin to take a rapid turn for the worse when his wealthy family subsequently becomes the target of local thieves. Tim Roth excels in the role of Neil. Sundown saw its première in Venice. It was also screened in Toronto, where it was very positively received by critics.

Bergman Island

Filmmakers Tony and Chris have the opportunity to spend several weeks as artists in residence on Fårö Island, right in the places where Ingmar Bergman lived and worked. However, the stay and their work on their own individual scripts soon begin to drive a wedge between the couple. While the successful Tony focuses on developing his career, Chris tries to penetrate Bergman’s mysterious, inspiring, and problematic world. The film Bergman Island was included in the competition for the Palme d’Or at Cannes and was screened at a number of other festivals as well.
