29TH PRAGUE IFF – FEBIOFEST: DAY THREE

Saturday’s programme at the 29th Prague IFF – Febiofest was packed with excellent films and events. Several screenings were presented by their directors or producers. Most of them did not miss the opportunity for a personal encounter and conversation with the audience after the closing credits. Canadian director Monia Chokri visited the halls of Cinema City Slovanský dům with her crazy comedy Babysitter which was selected for this year’s Febiofest Comedy Competition; Lithuanian director Dovilé Šarutyté with her Feature Film about Life inspired by her own emotional experiences; the Belgian director and screenwriter Serge Mirzabekiantz with his feature debut Dark Heart of the Forest. And also director Wojciech Smarzowski with the audience hit The Wedding Day; producer David Kelly with the documentary The Storms of Jeremy Thomas about a five-day trip of director Mark Cousins to Cannes in the company of the famous UK producer; and the Serbian director Ognjen Janković with his film debut Golden Boy from the environment of youth football. The end of the day belonged to another film from the Main CompetitionOther Cannibals presented by its director Francesco Sossai.

At the Edison FilmHub, the profile section dedicated to Dutch actor, director and screenwriter Alex van Warmerdam continued. After the screening of The Last Days of Emma Blank and his new film No. 10, the director, who is celebrating seventy this year, had an enthusiastic discussion with the audience. In Café Vzlet in Vršovice, the VR Cinema section with remarkable projects in virtual reality runs until 1 May.

In the Vršovice Kino Pilotů, Febiofest screened the Girl Picture in the presence of Finnish film and television director and screenwriter Alli Haapasalo and actress Eleonoory Kauhanen. Their Girl Picture premiered at Sundance, where it won the Audience Award, then screened in the Generations section at the Berlinale, and opened this year’s BFI Flare.
