Xhafer, a Kosovar engineer living in Germany, always had a feeling that he didn't quite fit in with his team at work, mainly because of his ethnic background. When he finds a dead rat outside his door one day, his conviction that his colleagues and even his own family hate him skyrockets. Xhafer becomes increasingly mired in his own paranoia and is forced to dig deep to discern what is reality and what is a figment of his imagination.

Visar Morina

The Kosovo native has already attracted attention with his previous film, his feature debut Babai (2015). The story of a desperate boy on a journey to find his lost father premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it won the directing award. Exile was screened at Sundance, shown successfully at the 2020 Berlinale, and was Kosovo's Oscar nominee. Morina has long been involved in immigration and integration issues.
