The tension between the adolescent Julija and her domineering father Ante is growing when a wealthy family friend comes into their home on a Croatian island. Ante attempts to arrange an agreement with him transforming their calm yet isolated existence. Julija will be wanting even more from this influential visitor from abroad, who brings with him a seductive feeling of freedom… Dangerous reefs are hidden beneath the calm surface, and this summer romance has very sharp teeth.
This Croatian filmmaker and author currently lives and works in New York. After growing through a number of creative workshops, she presented herself through the mature debut Murina, which won the Cannes Camera d’Or award for best debut. Martin Scorsese took on the role of executive producer. Kusijanović discovered the actress Gracija Filipović, this year’s European Shooting Star, who has already played Julija once before, in her 2017 short film Into the Blue.
