Impossible to substitute or cultivate, the Alba white truffle is a rare gastronomic delicacy. Only a handful of older men in northern Italy know the secret to finding this fungus. Along with their specially trained dogs, they preserve a secret culture and training handed down for generations. An award-winning documentary about truffle hunters’ attempts to preserve the age-old rules of the hunt, while facing down ruthless younger competitors and greedy dealers.

Michael Dweck, Gregory Kershaw

The American filmmakers previously collaborated on the documentary The Last Race (2018), about Long Island’s dying stock car racing tradition. This film about the dying traditions of truffle culture premiered at Sundance, was screened in Toronto and New York and was named one of the five best documentaries of the year by the National Board of Review. Dweck is also known for his photography.
