19-23.3. Tantehorse: Family Therapy

Venue: Jídelna Pragovky

“Insanity? Just the ultimate freedom”

The !O! project with the working title Family Therapy is a theatrical event in which performance, installation and happening intersect. Dance architecture between reality and dream, it explores the theme of insanity and mental illness from the perspective of arts as a diagnosis.

The project was created in the 18-month-old laboratory Tantelab, where two directors, nine performers and four designers came together with psychiatrists, psychologists and people from various branches of the arts to explore together the terrain of individual mental disorders and illnesses as a starting point for their characters. Reflective exploration of individual stories from the position of Foucaultian reason, and subsequently in the immersive space of un-reason, creates a dialogue with the audience.

The Tantehorse group has been focused for many years on authorial productions at the intersection of documentary, physical and dance theatre and performance. Its main aim is to take on socially engaged themes in a creative manner and to transcend genre boundaries.

Monika Žáková: New Gravity (26. 2. – 26. 3. 2019)

Venue: Pragovka Gallery - Pop-up
Curator: Tereza Jindrová

Objects of various dimensions made of galvanised metal and paper collages. Though it may not seem so initially, metal shares a great number of qualities with paper. It is subject to gravity, can be folded and ages over time in a similar manner to paper. What’s more, 300 g/m2 paper corresponds visually to 0.3mm steel. At first glance, the difference between paper and metal following colour adjustment is unreadable and confusing, with the two materials becoming interchangeable. The project Expanding the Factory presented here becomes a perceptible game that to some degree culminates with material and form floating between the states of certainty and illusion.

Veronika Přikrylová: Patrik ( 26.2. – 26.3.2019)

Venue: Pragovka Gallery - The White Room
Authorial project

Veronika Přikrylová is a graduate of the sculpture atelier at FaVU in Brno and UMPRUM in Prague who frequently works in a field that might be described as institutional criticism. This is the fundamental situation in which she finds herself as an artist. However, in parallel with this approach she also works on various objects (or the principles behind them) that she later employs in specific projects. Přikrylová sometimes makes sculptures. However, she also makes use instead of existing ones or takes them over as ready-mades. It is important to her that these be purchased goods with their own motion and flow; by placing the item in a different, artistic flow she alters their fundamental parameters. The artist is also open to the symbolic impressions created by these deviations and at the White Room gallery offers similar grounds for reflection on the circumstances of the exhibition.

EXHIBITION ACCOMPANYING PROGRAMME/ VOLUNTARY ADMISSION

21. 3. Korzo Pragovka/ SANDOZ EXPERIENCE: Lecture by philosopher Vít Pokorný: The basis of psychedelic experience + screening of films from the Sandoz archive + introductory talk + guided tours with curators and artists of the exhibitions A Girl named Sandoz, Patrik, New Gravity and It never was, it still is.

As part of the SANDOZ Experience, films will be screened that were created in the 1950s and 1960s within Cinémathèque Sandoz, which at the Sandoz pharmaceutical company was tasked with producing specific art works with surprising artistic qualities that explored altered states of consciousness. This will be followed by a conversation between curator Klára Vavříková and Lea Petříková about the origins of the works on show and analysis of the films produced by Sandoz. Petříková will discuss the research, specific films being screened and how she found inspiration for her art in this research.
