PETER MORGAN

Peter Morgan, British dramatist and screenwriter, has been awarded the Golden Globe and has made a name for himself with his screenplays for biographical films about important figures of the 20th century: Queen Elizabeth II (The Queen starring Helen Mirren), Idi Amin (The Last King of Scotland) as well as race car drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt (Rush). Morgan’s study of historical figures invariably combines personal drama with insights into the burning political issues of their time, while remaining accessible to the viewers. His screenplay for Frost/Nixon reconstructed David Frost’s efforts to bring about the controversial televised interviews with Richard Nixon and was based on Morgan’s own play. The Other Boleyn Girl, is a romantic drama full of intrigue at Henry VIII’s court. Morgan has been nominated for two Oscars and a number of BAFTA awards. He won four BAFTA awards, including one for a TV film The Deal about the rivalry between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown directed by Stephen Frears. After The Deal, Frears and Morgan collaborated on The Queen.
