Movie synopsis: Stuttering Joni ran away from military service, so he started civilian service in a youth detention centre. If he runs again, he will go to jail. He meets a temperamental and unstable ward, Raisa. Their characters could not be more different, but they are connected by one thing only – the desire to disappear. They actually succeed, which arouses the expectations in the viewer that the usual “escape” reversal of fortunes will follow. Yet the director, Valkeapää, plays a fantastic game of surreal sequences, especially with the camera and visual style, thus avoiding the story clichés of similar road movies. The flirtation with film experimentation metaphorically circles around the topic of lost and recovered freedom.
