Movie synopsis: Producer Mike Downey calls Makhmalbaf a “filmmaker of consciousness” and perceives this film as an appeal to abandon violence in future revolutions. Makhmalbaf's inspiration were the events of the Arab Spring, the president himself (Georgian Misha Gomiahsvili) reminds us rather of an Eastern European leader. The film brings a combination of black humour, satire, and human suffering depicted in truly Biblical style. Accompanied by his little grandson, the president is incognito trying to escape across the country, which he has destroyed by his tyranny. Yet it is not a journey to moral redemption – he is convinced of being right. Makhmalbaf's art thus triumphs: he can portray a human monster in such a way that the viewer subconsciously feels for him. The film was awarded the Hugo for the Best Film at IFF Chicago.
