Movie synopsis: Over 40,000 people were deported from the Baltic region to Siberian Gulags during and after World War II. One of them was a young woman, Erna Tamm, whose diary and letters form the film's main plotline. Martti Helde, a debuting Estonian director, portrayed a serious topic in a highly original visual style. After a diligent study of materials, documents and photographs of that time, he staged the film in 13 images, setting static actors in distinctive gestures in a real environment. The camera flows among them and the soundtrack creates space for emotions. The contrast between the motionless beauty of the images and the horror of the depicted events resonates in the viewer long after leaving the cinema.
