Movie synopsis: Andrzej Munk's film is considered one of the key films of the Polish Film School. Together with Andrzej Wajda's Canal (1975), it is one of the pictures which confront the painful memories and stereotypical notions related to World War II. Eroica, or “Heroic Symphony in Two Parts”, scathingly attacks national heroic myths, contrasting the ethos of military honour with praise for life focused on survival. The film consists of two tales, one of them taking place during the Warsaw Uprising and the second in a German POW camp. The film won the award for the best film at IFF Mar del Plata in 1959.
