Febiofest will feature a special section in support of the independence of Ukraine

We will introduce a cross-section of the youngest generation of Ukrainian filmmakers, who have had to leave school because of the current events in their country. The screenings will be FREE for all at the opening of Febiofest on the 20th of March- limited to the seating capacity of the Hall. Three filmmakers will visit the screenings as guests.

We want to offer our support for Ukraine in its current quest for democracy, so we have added a special block of films called the Voice of young Ukraine as part of the opening ceremony. This is the first time in the history of Febiofest that we have expanded the Opening Night to a wider audience. The screenings will take place on March 20 at 8pm in Halls 1, 2 and 7 at Cinestar in Andel. Admission will be free of charge, on a first come, first served basis – limited to the seating capacity of the halls. The Opening Night screenings of Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive as well as Andrzej Wajda's Walesa : Man of Hope - which are by invitation only - remain unchanged.

Our cross-section of the youngest generation of Ukrainian filmmakers culminates in the direct testimonies of the Ukrainian revolution. Some of these creators ended up in jail. Two of them, director Oleksandr Ščerbak and cinematographer Mykyta Panisov, will be guests at the screening along with director Michail Gerasimovič Iljenko, the author of The one, who passed through the fire and Fučžou, which became one of the heroes of Majdan.

Febiofest, along with five other Central and Eastern European festivals, intends to show our support for colleagues from the Odessa and Kiev festivals. President of the Festival, Fero Fenič explains why he initiated this special evening of Ukraine:

"I couldn't just watch the news. I had to respond. I want Ukrainian filmmakers to feel our support. "

Febiofest’s Ukrainian guests also plan to visit some loved ones who are in Prague, hospitalized with injuries from Majdan Square.

Come and support democracy in Ukraine.
