Movie synopsis: Pioneering French writer Violette Leduc (1907-1972) is known today for her novels ‘La Bâtarde’ and ‘Ravages’ where she, at odds with the social conventions of the time, openly described her experience with abortion and her first lesbian relationship. But born as an illegitimate child, she suffered from low self-esteem, lived her life in poverty, struggled to get recognition for her work and desperately searched for love. This riveting biopic centers on Violette’s intense life-long relationship with feminist icon Simone de Beauvoir, following their encounter in post-war Paris. Simone admired her raw honesty and championed her work, but Violette craved not only her guidance, but also her love and intimacy.
