Max Ophüls made his best-known films in France in the early 1950s with star actors of the period, such as Jean Gabin and Danièle Darrieux. The retrospective focuses on later works from the director: Le Plaisir (1952), which is based on a short story by Guy de Maupassant, The Earrings of Madame de… (1953) and Lola Montes (1955), an epic starring Martine Carol and Peter Ustinov. Ophüls, who influenced many successful directors, will also be remembered in a documentary by German director Martina Müller.
