FEBIOFEST INTRODUCES WINNING FILMS FROM VENICE

PRAGUE IFF – FEBIOFEST SHOWCASES FILMS THAT HAVE SUCCEEDED AT THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS FILM EVENTS IN THE WORLD

No less than seven of the films on the 28th Prague IFF – Febiofest programme had their global premiers at the world’s oldest film festival – the Venice Film Festival. Amos Gitai’s latest film Laila in Haifa, which follows five women’s night at one nightclub, competed for the Golden Lion.

The touching story of a dying father Nowhere Special, the surreally nightmarish Night of the Kings, the provocative meditation on the role of art The Man Who Sold His Skin, and the observational social drama Listen were all featured in the second competition section Orizzonti. The Man Who Sold His Skin, a film about a Syrian refugee, won Best Actor, while Listen, which tells the story of a Portuguese family in the UK, won Best Debut as well as the Special Orizzonti Jury Prize.

The visually stunning Russian film poem about desire The Whaler Boy, which is in the Febiofest Main Competition, was screened at the 77th Venice Biennale parallel section Venice Days, as was the gentle, melancholy Chilean adaptation of the novel My Tender Matador.
