This biographical drama tells the true story of a Jewish pianist named Wladyslaw Szpilman, who managed to avoid deportation during WWII. The growing repressions against the Jewish community, arrests, and the creation of the Warsaw ghetto were the hardest trials in the renowned musician's life. Roman Polanski based his film on the eponymous autobiography that Szpilman wrote about his tribulations. The Pianist won Oscars for Best Director, Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
