Wernera Herzog's cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger to attend Febiofest

Salt and Fire

Also coming to Febiofest is Peter Zeitlinger, a German cinematographer of Czech origin. A versatile filmmaker, as well as being a cinematographer, he also directs, edits and writes screenplays. Since the 1990s he has worked with Werner Herzog on feature films (Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans with Nicholas Cage) and documentaries (Encounters at the End of the World, Grizzly Man, etc.). Zeitlinger was also cinematographer on Herzog’s most recent feature, Salt and Fire, which along with the new Kusturica film On the Milky Road will be presented in the new Masters section, which focuses on the work of auteurs whose films and distinctive styles have earned them a place in the history of world cinema. “We have selected 12 films for the Masters section, including pictures by such diverse and distinctive directors as Alejandro Jodorowsky, Andrzej Wajda and Kiyoshi Kurosawa,” says program director Anna Kopecká. “It is actually one long lesson in film,” Kopecká adds. All the pictures, except for Verhoeven’s Elle, will be Czech premieres. Many of them have won important international film awards, including a Silver Lion from Venice for Paradise by Andrei Konchalovksy, a Best Director prize at Cannes for Olivier Assayas’s Personal Shopper, a Golden Globe for Elle and, most recently, a Silver Bear from Berlin for actress Kim Min-hee in On the Beach at Night Alone by Korean director Hong Sang-soo. The new pictures in the Masters section will be complemented by a screening of a restored digital version of David Lynch’s cult film Blue Velvet, which viewers selected in a poll.
