Febiofest is publishing the New Europe program section

Febiofest is publishing the New Europe program section, which comes with a EUR 5,000 prize for the first and second-placed winning filmmakers, who are at the start of their careers and from various European states. New Europe presents works that are ambitious and brave, both conceptually and formally, are provocative and, through the filmmaker’s vision, reflect contemporary Europe. Alongside previously announced films with Czech participation, Filthy by Tereza Nvotová, a graduate of Prague’s FAMU, and Austrian director Tereza Kotyk's debut Home is Here, the program of this year’s competition also includes Bulgarian director Ralitza Petrova’s award-winning Godless and the elemental Heartstone, Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson’s debut exploring friendship and adolescence in the melancholy setting of Iceland. Also in competition will be French director Damien Manviel’s The Park, a mysterious, minimalistic romance about the inception of a relationship between two young people, and Playground by Bartosz M. Kowalski, which was inspired by a real case of cruelty and violence among prepubescent children. German director Julian Radelmeyer will be on hand at Febiofest to introduce his Self-Criticism of a Bourgeois Dog, a political comedy with magical plot elements. The US actor Brady Corbet’s debut The Childhood of a Leader, meanwhile, captures the birth of a terrifying young ego on the eve of fascism’s rise and features Robert Pattinson and Stacy Martin. Northern realism and fairytale magic clash in Swedish director Johannes Nyholm’s The Giant, while the list concludes with the second Polish film in the competition, The Last Family by Jan P. Matuszynski, which is a family fresco of the surrealist painter Zdzisław Beksiński.
