The Febiofest Grand Prix goes to director Rúnar Rúnarsson for his film, Sparrows

The winner of the 23rd Prague International Film Festival – Febiofest is Sparrows directed by the 38 year-old Reykjavik native Rúnar Rúnarsson. The Icelandic/Danish drama won the award for Best Film at the San Sebastian IFF as well as the Silver Hugo for New Director’s Competition at the Chicago IFF. Febiofest’s Grand Prix awards 5,000 Euros to the director and 5,000 Euros for the potential Czech distributor. The sensitive coming-of-age story utilizes the uniqueness of breath-taking Icelandic countryside with music by Kjartan Sveinsson, keyboardist of the famous Icelandic band Sigur Rós. While the prizes were handed out at Thursday’s closing ceremonies, festival screenings for the public will continue all day on Friday.
