Focus on Holland

Jeroen Krabbé

Febiofest will introduce Dutch cinema this year in the section Focus on Holland. There are a number of breakout talents from the Netherlands whose first and second films cannot be overlooked at festivals worldwide. One of them is director Paula van der Oest, whose second feature film, Accused, which focuses on an unjustly accused nurse, was the Netherlands official submission to this year's Oscar competition. Peter Hoogendorn successfully entered the festival world in Venice with his unusual mid-length debut about the consequences of a young girl's car accident, Between 10 and 12. Febiofest will also present Urszula Antoniak's third film, which portrays passion between two girls – Nude Area. The director's previous film, Code Blue, was presented in Cannes in 2011. Out of the nine films in this section, six were directed by women. A Dutch representative will also participate in the New Europe competition. Moreover, Febiofest Junior will present three Dutch films as well.

As a part of the festival, a panel discussion with Dutch producers will take place, focusing on the possibilities of Czech-Dutch co-productions. Prague will also welcome the famous actor and director, Jeroen Krabbé, who not only starred in films by another famous Netherlander, Paul Verhoeven, but he also managed to break through in Hollywood. His roles as villains in No Mercy, The Prince of the Tides and The Fugitive are renowned; he also played in a Bond film The Living Daylights and in European epic Farinelli. As part of the Tribute to Jeroen Krabbé, Febiofest will screen not only the films where he plays leading roles, but also two films he directed – Left Luggage about a young Jewish girl played by Isabella Rossellini, a film which was awarded at 1998 Berlinale, and an allegoric story of two angels, The Discovery of Heaven.
