Exhibition of sculptures by Lukáš Rais

Lukáš Rais - Sculptures

Lukáš Rais (b.1975)  - During his studies of sculpting at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague under the guidance of professors Jiri Beranek, Kurt Gebauer, and Kristof Kintera, the artist began to form his style. Yet his previous studies of technical subjects establish a firm foundation of his art. The knowledge of electrical engineering, mechanics, and industry-used technological processes has become a base that defines the whole character of his work.

Mr. Reis focuses on the transformation of existing standardized objects into new forms and meanings so that it's not difficult for a regular viewer to define, describe, and experience the object and eventually realize that nothing is what it seems on the first sight. His favourite materials are definitely metal pipes and their industrial products, which are deformed so that they deny their original purpose and essence. The sculptor cuts, bends, welds, turns inside out, dissects and recombines the seemingly invincible metal in unusual contexts.

The artist believes that this material offers perfect possibilities for moulding, and almost begs to be re-created, thus enabling the expression of the artist's own experiences, situations, and banalities which gain unexpected associations after being transformed into sculptures. Precise processing of the material and its perfect surface are essential, with visible joints that create a sophisticated accent. The sculptor reaches the peak of his perfection in his designs when the aesthetic form is provided with a clear purpose. His series of heating sculptures, Industriality, was won the Czech Grand Design Award in 2013 in the Discovery of the Year category. His sculptures suggest that the hidden universal order is embedded also in seemingly chaotic phenomena, they imply a morphological unity of the macro and micro cosmos, and they remind us of the common form of nature, the universe, and the fruits of human labour.

The list of exhibited sculptures: Noha 2009, Irony 2012, Cross Check 2010, Archimedon 2010 Metamorfloris 2014
