Movie synopsis: A stone avalanche buries a mother bear while she’s collecting honey. After her tragic death, her cub must fend for itself. It meets a grown bear and they start wandering together despite the baby’s initial reluctance. Yet their life in the Canadian mountains is complicated by a group of hunters. The adventure film won several awards, including a César for the Best Director and Best Editing (1989), and it was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Editing (1990). Like the director's Quest for Fire (1981), the film is almost completely without dialogue, with the exception of the hunters' scenes. The animated part of the film, representing the cub's dreams, was made by the famous Czech animator, Bretislav Pojar.
