Movie synopsis: Fire meant everything for prehistoric people. It represented a tribe’s protection against wild animals, and it provided warmth during cold nights. It became a valuable commodity, especially if a prehistoric man could not light it himself. The adventurous film tells the story of three envoys who are sent by their tribe on a long quest for fire. On the journey through various human cultures and natural dangers, they discover not only the secret of fire, but also friendship and love. Jean-Jacques Annaud's ambitious drama was made entirely without words, which are substituted with made-up sounds and body language. The actors' appearance is so convincing that the film won the Oscar for Best Makeup in 1983.
