More stars flock to Febiofest!

Isaach de Bankolé

Look forward to seeing Isaach de Bankole, Robert Więckiewicz and even a “magician”, Sylvain Chomet, who is better known as a French director and animator.

Isaach de Bankolé

De Bankolé (born 1957) has played in quite a number of films, some of which you have certainly seen, such as Chocolat, a film from French director Claire Denis, with whom he also worked in White Material.

He has worked extensively with the king of American independent film, Jim Jarmusch. After being cast in movies like Night on EarthGhost Dog and The Limits of Control, Jarmusch says that “Isaach De Bankolé is one of my favorite actors. He takes his work very seriously, fully transforming himself for each character he embodies.”

You might have seen De Bankolé as the evil African warlord in the James Bond movie, Casino Royale. Besides some of his older films you will get a chance to see him in a new Nigerian film Mother of George directed by Andrew Dosunma and an impressive French thriller, Chaos (dir. Etienne Faure).

The most important reason why Isaach de Bankole is coming to Prague is to receive the Kristian Award for his Contribution to World Cinema.

Sylvain Chomet
Chomet is known primarily for his entertaining cartoon The Triplets of Belleville. Made in 2003, it was nominated for two Oscars. Seven years later, he was nominated again for The Illusionist.

Chomet will bring us his whole repotroire. We’ll also project his short film from 1997, The Old Lady and the Pigeons which was also nominated for an Oscar and won the BAFTA for the Best Animated Short Film.

You will also have the opportunity to see his new live-action debut called Attila Marcel. It is a tragicomedy about a 33 year old man who, after spending most of his life with his two elderly, overbearing aunts, he meets a new neighbor and along with her hallucinogenic tea.

Robert Więckiewicz
We have had the chance to see Więckiewicz a few times before at Febiofest. He first appeared on the screen at Febiofest in 2009 alongside Jiří Macháček in a Polish film, Strawberry Wine. In 2010, we saw him in The Dark House by Wojciech Smarzowski.

Robert Więckiewicz also ended the 2012 Febiofest starring in a film In Darkness by Agnieszka Holland. This year, however, he will visit us in person to introduce a new film by director Andrzej Wajda, Walesa: A Man of Hope.

Svein André Hofsø Myhre
Svein André Hofsø Myhre (born in 1973) is a Norwegian actor with Down syndrome. He will be both on-screen and in front of it, along with director Bardem Breien, to introduce a comedy film Detective Down, made with Czech co-producers, Evolution Films.

Here is a list and more information about the previously confirmed guests.
